View Full Version : Registering Pieces of Aircraft?

On another thread, I learned that Merlyn tries to keep track of new
owners of aircraft on which their product is installed (Merlyn Automatic
Wastegate, in this case) so they can send out any service bulletins or
ADs on the device, if they should be issued.
This raises a question in my mind. Should I go through my airplane,
piece by piece, contacting the manufacturers for the latest updates and
registering myself as the owner of their equipment? That seems like a
lot of work tracking that all down. What do you folks out there do?
Is there some subset to do this for that is more important that others?
Can't they track ownership through the FAA registration process?

I use ADLog and let them do the legwork. When getting set up with them, you
provide an equipment list with part numbers and serials for all aftermarket
accessories, avionics etc. If an AD comes up on them, then they'll make
sure you get a copy of the AD.

Ray,
OK. That sounds good, but they do not track service bulletins or
updates to manuals. So, it still seems that one needs to somehow
register with all the manufacturers for those sorts of things.
